Abstract

Benteng Marlborough merupakan salah satu peninggalan sejarah yang dibangun oleh kolonial Inggris di Indonesia, tepatnya di Kota Bengkulu. Benteng ini didirikan pada tahun 1713 hingga 1719 di bawah komando Gubernur Joseph Collett, dan berfungsi sebagai pusat pertahanan sekaligus simbol kekuasaan Inggris di wilayah tersebut. Artikel ini membahas peran Benteng Marlborough dalam konteks sejarah kolonial Inggris di Indonesia, termasuk kontribusinya terhadap perkembangan ekonomi dan militer di Bengkulu. Selain itu, artikel ini juga mengkaji upaya konservasi dan pemanfaatan benteng sebagai warisan budaya yang bernilai bagi pariwisata dan edukasi sejarah di Indonesia. Melalui studi ini, diharapkan dapat memberikan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam tentang pentingnya Benteng Marlborough sebagai saksi bisu dari interaksi kolonial di Nusantara serta upaya pelestariannya sebagai salah satu cagar budaya nasional.
