Abstract

Invasi Inggris ke Jawa pada tahun 1811 terjadi dalam konteks melemahnya kekuasaan Belanda akibat Perang Napoleon, sehingga membuka peluang bagi Inggris untuk mengambil alih Jawa sebagai bagian dari strategi global melawan Prancis. Penelitian ini bertujuan menjelaskan dinamika invasi Inggris, menganalisis kebijakan utama Thomas Stamford Raffles selama pemerintahannya, serta menilai dampaknya terhadap struktur politik, ekonomi, dan sosial masyarakat Jawa. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi pustaka melalui analisis berbagai sumber primer dan sekunder terkait periode kolonial tersebut.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Raffles menerapkan sejumlah reformasi penting, seperti sistem Landrente, Indirect Rule, penghapusan perbudakan, serta reorganisasi birokrasi yang mengurangi peran bangsawan tradisional. Kebijakan-kebijakan tersebut membawa perubahan dalam tata kelola kolonial dan mendorong integrasi ekonomi Jawa ke jaringan perdagangan global, namun juga menimbulkan beban pajak baru, ketidakstabilan politik, serta tekanan sosial bagi masyarakat, terutama petani. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pemerintahan Raffles memberikan kombinasi dampak progresif dan problematis, serta berakhir seiring perubahan politik Eropa setelah kekalahan Napoleon dan penandatanganan Konvensi London 1814 yang mengembalikan Jawa kepada Belanda.
