Pendudukan Jepang di Indonesia selama Perang Dunia II (1942–1945) menjadi titik balik dalam sejarah kekuasaan kolonial di Asia Tenggara. Jepang menggantikan Belanda sebagai penguasa, menerapkan pemerintahan militer yang represif namun juga membuka ruang bagi tumbuhnya nasionalisme. Artikel ini mengkaji bagaimana pendudukan Jepang menyebabkan perubahan dalam lanskap kekuasaan politik di Indonesia, serta menganalisis respons rakyat yang meliputi kolaborasi, perlawanan, dan adaptasi terhadap kondisi baru. Meskipun rakyat mengalami penderitaan akibat kebijakan Jepang seperti romusha dan kekurangan pangan, pengalaman masa pendudukan ini justru memperkuat semangat kemerdekaan. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan historis, artikel ini menyoroti bagaimana dinamika pendudukan Jepang membentuk fondasi penting bagi lahirnya Republik Indonesia pada tahun 1945.
