Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji latar belakang kehidupan dan karya Mgr. Geise, menganalisis peran serta kontribusinya dalam membangun fondasi Gereja Katolik di Keuskupan Bogor, serta memahami kondisi sosial dan keagamaan yang memengaruhi kiprahnya pada masa tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian sejarah dengan pendekatan biografi historis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Mgr. Nicholas Joannes Cornelius Geise, OFM memiliki peranan strategis dalam peletakan dasar Gereja Katolik di Keuskupan Bogor, terutama melalui pembinaan umat, pembentukan struktur kelembagaan Gereja, serta penerapan nilai-nilai spiritualitas Fransiskan dalam karya pastoralnya. Di tengah situasi sosial-politik yang tidak stabil, Mgr. Geise mampu menjalankan kepemimpinan yang kontekstual dan responsif terhadap kebutuhan umat. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa Mgr. Geise tidak hanya berperan sebagai pemimpin rohani, tetapi juga sebagai aktor sosial yang berpengaruh dalam pembentukan identitas dan fondasi Gereja Katolik lokal di Bogor.
